The World Between Us

In the darkness I sailed hush and bound faces.
My only job was to make compelling conversation.
Her liberal eyes keenly adjusted to the lights.
In a haze her dapper ebb meet mine.

“I like you!,” she said.
I whispered, “Take a chance!” and took her hand.
We chuckled, smiled, and suitably made plans.
The rest was left to chance.

Her perceptive wit distinguished herself.
She was a sweet scent moving across the room.
Unfit riches lit our frothy minds.
I was hooked on her fancy style.

“I like you!,” she said.
I whispered, “Take a chance!” and took her hand.
We chuckled, smiled, and suitably made plans.
The rest was left to chance.

We were blue birds in a white sky.
A boy and girl with everything to prove.
We were uncaptured youth in a cultured group.
A boy and girl with nothing much to lose.

“I like you!,” she said.
I whispered, “Take a chance!” and took her hand.
We chuckled, smiled, and suitably made plans.
The rest was left to chance.
